Shared Reading and the Blue Peter book badge this October half term!

By - 07 October 2025 - 17:00pm

Shared Reading and Derby Libraries are coming together this October half term (Thursday 30th October) to offer children the opportunity to earn their Blue Peter book badge!

Derby Book Festival will be running this special Shared Reading session, open to children aged 5 – 7 years old and their grown-ups.

This Shared Reading session will take place from 2 - 3pm on Thursday 30th October at Alvaston Library. Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the session. If you’re looking to have fun with books and keep your children entertained this half term, then bring them along to a free ‘Blue Peter book badge’ Shared Reading session.

We’ll listen to a few poems from the entertaining Blue Jelly & Strawberries by Attie Lime and share ideas. Next, our Shared Reading volunteers will help the children to begin their Blue Peter book badge application by drawing a picture inspired by this lively book.

We will explain all you need to know about completing and submitting your child’s application for a Blue Peter book badge at home. This will involve uploading their picture from the session, writing a very short book review and answering some questions about Blue Peter - it’s simple!

You don’t need to bring anything with you on the day - apart from a smile! We’ll bring books, pens, silly voices and everything else we’ll need to make this session enjoyable and inspiring.

This special Shared Reading session is free, but you must book a place by contacting the library directly on the phone number below.
