Jane Austen and Lord Byron are often presented as opposites but they are closer than you might think. In Regency England he was the first celebrity author while she was a parson's daughter writing anonymously.

In her beautifully illustrated book, Christine explores how their lives, interests, work and sense of humour often brought them within touching distance, and sets them side by side in the world of the Regency and Romantic period.

It illustrates how they were distantly related by marriage; how they knew about each other even though they probably never met; their mutual acquaintances and how their literary work often came close in subject-matter, approach, technique and tone.

Christine will be in conversation with Ben Veasey, Librarian at the University of Derby.

Please note: Each QUAD ticket is subject to a £1 transaction fee at checkout with the exception of bookings made by QUAD members. This £1 goes directly towards the running of QUAD.
