Translated into over 40 languages and with over 16 million books sold to date across the world, crime writer Val McDermid is at the very top of her game. She has won many awards internationally and has also been a judge for the Women's Prize for Fiction and the Man Booker Prize.
Val has created many notable characters in four main series: Lindsay Gordon, Kate Brannigan, DCI Karen Pirie, and, perhaps her best known, clinical psychologist Dr Tony Hill and DCI Carol Jordan in the Wire in the Blood series, adapted for television starring Robson Green. Her latest, Still Life, features DCI Karen Pirie and was published in February 2021.
She has also recently published her first graphic novel, Resistance, illustrated by up-and-comer Kathryn Briggs. It is a chilling, but incredibly moving and inspiring, story of individuals pressed to rise above their station, first to nail down the truth of a looming pandemic, and later to try to fight it.
