For those of you who haven’t yet discovered Mary Lawson, Anne Tyler probably describes her work best: 'I've been telling everyone I know about Mary Lawson . . . Each of her novels is just a marvel'.
The author of only four novels to date, including the Booker longlisted, heart-breaking The Other Side of the Bridge, for her fans the publication of a new novel is a moment to celebrate.
Set in Northern Ontario (as are all her novels) in 1972, A Town Called Solace explores the relationships of three people: eight-year-old Clara, newly divorced Liam and Elizabeth Orchard who is nearing the end of her life, brought together by fate and the mistakes of the past. By turns gripping and darkly funny, it uncovers the layers of grief and remorse and love that connect us, but shows that sometimes a new life is possible.
