"It's not just a book about music. It's also a book about overcoming racial barriers. It's a book about courage."

Kadiatu Kanneh-Mason is a remarkable woman: growing up as a mixed-race child in Britain in the 1970s, she is a former lecturer at Birmingham University and has seven children – all of them phenomenally talented musicians. Sheku was the first black musician to win Young Musician of the Year and performed at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding, two of his siblings are former BBC Young Musician finalists and the eldest, Isata, has released her first album and performed at the Proms. They don't come from the rarefied environment of elite music schools, but from a state comprehensive in Nottingham.

In House of Music Kadiatu recounts the love and determination of herself and her husband that raised a musical family in a Britain divided by class and race.

Kadiatu will be in conversation with BBC East Midlands Today presenter and reporter, Navtej Johal and both Konya and Aminata will be performing at the event.

Aminata and Konya will perform the following pieces:

Konya: (piano solo) Schubert Impromptu op 90 no 3

Aminata: (violin solo) Bach Andante from Sonata II BWV 1003

Konya and Aminata: (piano and violin) Meditation by Massenet
