Contemporary gothic fiction has surged in popularity in the last few years with readers drawn to the haunting settings and dark plots. Derbyshire has an interesting connection to Victorian gothic fiction and in this panel, crime writer Sarah Ward author of The Quickening as Rhiannon Ward, a Radio Times book of 2020, will be discussing the lure of all things gothic with Catriona Ward and Stuart Turton.

Catriona Ward’s latest book, The Last House on Needless Street, was called a ‘nerve-shredder’ by Stephen King and was published to rave reviews in March this year. Stuart Turton’s new novel, The Devil and the Dark Water, also received widespread acclaim on publication in 2020 and was selected for the BBC Two book club Between the Covers.

Join the three authors to discover why we continued to be enthralled by this most mysterious of genres.
