For ages 5 - 8

Join children’s author and illustrator Jane Porter for a fun half-term storytime and collage workshop.

You'll hear Jane read the story of Brian The Brave (written by Paul Stewart and illustrated by Jane), winner of the 2020 Derby Children’s Book Award, then create your own Brian the Brave crafts to take home using some of Jane's collection of exciting paper scraps - including some left over from the actual book!

The one-hour family group sessions will be available for family ‘bubbles’ of between 2 to 6 people from no more than 2 households (children and parents/carers).

The ticket price depends on the size of table you require:

  • 2 people £10
  • 3 people £15
  • 4 people £20
  • 5 people £25
  • 6 people £30

For each session, there is a limited number of each table size. If the table size you want has sold out, you will need to buy a larger table or try a different session or we can add you to a waiting list and get back to you once we know how close to capacity we are.

You must book in advance on a first come, first served basis and parents/carers will be required to supervise their children in the session. If we have to cancel the workshops due to Covid-19 guidelines, your tickets will be refunded.

All workshops will be set up at Covid-safe, socially distanced tables and all materials will be supplied in sealed bags for each child. Hand sanitiser will be provided at the entrance to the venue.

Adults must wear masks when moving around the building, but once you are seated at your table, you can remove your mask. Children under 11 years do not need to wear masks

Jane Porter will wear a face shield throughout the workshop.

Reserve your table in CUBE café for a delicious family feast during your stay and experience a private reading of the book in the café. You’ll also have the chance to buy copies of Brian the Brave after the event at a specially discounted rate and Jane will be happy to sign them with a personalised dedication. We’ll also have Book Festival tote bags and greetings cards on sale, so you can buy your Christmas gifts too.

Card payments preferred.
