A Theatre for Dreamers was published to critical acclaim in 2020. The fictional retelling of summer 1960 on the Greek island of Hydra and its bohemian coterie of artists and writers, including a young Canadian poet named Leonard Cohen, writer Axel Jensen and his dazzlingly beautiful wife Marianne.
We are delighted to recreate a very special event with Polly Samson with music from her husband, David Gilmour. On publication of the book, they hosted a series of Facebook live events attracting audiences in their millions.
Polly will be talking to Dymphna Flynn, recently retired Producer of BBC Radio 4’s Bookclub and Front Row, in a specially recorded interview for the Festival. The event will also include a short video of Hydra and will be interspersed with video recordings of David Gilmour and David and Polly’s daughter, Romany, singing some Leonard Cohen tracks as well as his own music.
The single by David Gilmour, for which Polly wrote the lyrics, Yes, I see ghosts, was inspired by a scene in A Theatre for Dreamers, released at its publication and went to #1 globally on iTunes.
