Opening Event with Sebastian Faulks

7:30pm - 9:00pm - Friday 9 June

£15 / £12
Derby Cathedral, DE1 3GP

Our Opening Event will feature internationally renowned author Sebastian Faulks, whose latest book, Where My Heart Used to Beat, returns to what has become a recurring theme in his novels: war and love. It is a tender portrait of a man and a century. Probably his best-loved novel, Birdsong, vividly depicted a British soldier’s experience on the frontline during the First World War.

Sebastian was due to be in conversation with James Naughtie, BBC News' Books Editor & Special Correspondent and former presenter of Radio 4’s Today programme.

Unfortunately, due to the unexpected announcement of the General Election on Thursday 8 June, James has, very reluctantly, had to pull out of the Festival due to his broadcasting commitments. We are delighted that Suzi Feay, a literary journalist with a particular interest in fiction and poetry, who writes regularly for The Independent, The Guardian and The Financial Times, and has been recommended to us by the BBC, has agreed to interview Sebastian.

After the event, follow the Fire Trail to The Silk Mill to view the Poppies exhibition.

The Fire Trail has been produced by Déda Producing Limited in association with Walk The Plank.
