We are very sad to have to announce that we have taken the decision to cancel this year’s Derby Book Festival, which was due to be held from 29 May – 6 June 2020. This decision is not made lightly and has been made in consultation with our trustees and our partners across the city, who have been forced to take decisions about closing their venues. Our number one priority is to ensure the health and well-being of our audience, authors, interviewers, volunteers and venue staff.
We are particularly disappointed as we had just completed this year’s programme with 105 great events, which we truly felt was our best events programme in our six year history.
We are currently talking to publishers about the possibility of postponing as many events as possible until the autumn. We also hope to bring you some online activities to help you through the coming weeks.
In the meantime, we will go ahead with our Flash Fiction Writing competition, which will be launched online on 30 March. We hope to have a record number of entries with so many people having more time to write their 50 word stories!
It will be difficult times for everyone, but we hope that you can find some joy in reading and escaping to new worlds over the coming weeks – and maybe months.
Thank you for your support for the Festival. We will be contacting all ticket holders for events at Derby Theatre in due course. Please be patient with us!
