The waiting is over! We are delighted to announce that you can now buy tickets for this year’s Opening Event with Sebastian Faulks. The event, sponsored by Peveril Homes, will be held on Friday 9 June in Derby Cathedral, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £15/£12 concessions and are available online or from the Festival Box Office at QUAD.
Sebastian will be in conversation with James Naughtie, BBC News’ Books Editor & Special Correspondent, as well as the former presenter of Radio 4’s Today programme for many years. James returns to the Festival for a third time.
Sebastian’s latest book, Where My Heart Used To Beat, returns to what has become a recurring theme in his novels: war and love. It is a tender portrait of a man and a century. Probably his best-loved novel, Birdsong, vividly depicted a British soldier’s experience on the frontline during the First World War.
After the event, you can follow the Fire Trail to The Silk Mill to view the Tower of London Poppies: Weeping Window exhibition, which arrives in the city on 8 June.
Tickets are already on sale for three Festival events at the Guildhall Theatre, which you can book with Derby LIVE.
We’ll let you have further details of ticket sales in the coming weeks. All Festival events will be on sale from 11 April, when the Festival Programme will also be available.
