We are delighted to give you an exclusive announcement: the dates for Derby Book Festival 2018 will be 1 – 9 June.
This is a week earlier than this year’s Festival, which was moved to avoid half term and meant it also coincided neatly with the arrival in the city of the Tower of London Poppies exhibition. This gave us a wonderful opportunity to programme Sebastian Faulks as this year’s Opening Event – a chance we will not have in 2018!
We have consulted with partners in the city and the earlier dates seem to suit us all. We are only in our fourth year and the Festival is still not fixed to any particular week, but we do welcome your feedback about what suits you best for future years: overlapping with the school half term or not. Do email us at email@example.com
Thank you for your feedback
We received over 1300 feedback forms at events and online and now have a winner of the £25 Waterstones book token in our prize draw. Congratulations to Layla!
Children’s Book Trail winners
The first four correct quiz sheets drawn from the Book Trail Post Box were from Esther Arnott,Abner Morley, Henki Moe Robey and Dominic Hughes .. and they too have received a book token each.
Festival t-shirt offer
We’ve had a number of people ask us if our Festival t-shirts are available to buy. We only produce these for our volunteers to wear at events but we do have a very limited number of small (suitable for 10/12 women’s size) 2017 t-shirts, which are available for £5 each. If you would like to buy one, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will arrange payment and delivery.
Plans under way …
Things might have quietened down a bit at our office in Bridge Street, but there’s plenty to do between festivals. As well as recruiting for a new Director, we have the evaluation of this year’s Festival to complete and we need to feedback to this year’s funders how we have used their money. We are already having conversations with our partners about how they want to be part of next year’s festival.
And then there’s the many hours of enjoyment reading publishers’ autumn catalogues to try to spot next summer’s best sellers and decide who to invite to next year’s Festival! Each year we are amazed by which events are the most popular – often the ones that we least expect to do well! Derby’s audience certainly has very eclectic tastes.
We are always delighted to hear from Festival supporters about which authors they’d like to see included in next year’s Festival programme – do email us: email@example.com
