Derby Reads launch event
We do hope you will be keen to join us for our annual launch event, Derby Reads, which will be held in QUAD on Wednesday 10 April.  As well as sharing the anticipated highlights of this year’s Festival, with readings from some of the wonderful books to be featured, we will also announce the launch of this year’s Flash Fiction Writing competition (see below for more information).

The Derby Reads event is FREE, but ticketed – so please book your places.

You can book your tickets from 10am on Wednesday 27 February at: http://www.derbybookfestival.co.uk/whats-on/

Flash Fiction Writing Competition
We’ve had a number of queries about whether we will be running our Flash Fiction Writing Competition again this year – and the answer is Yes!

We are launching it a bit later this year: on 10 April at Derby Reads.  We will again have three age categories: 11 years and under, 12 – 17 years, 18 years and over plus a special category for HM Prison Foston Hall.  The stories will be printed on Festival bookmarks which will include the dates for our 2020 Festival.  They will therefore have a longer shelf life and will be available throughout the year to promote next year’s Fesival.

Rosamund Young audio recording
We’ve now uploaded the audio recording of another of last year’s great events.  Rosamund Young joined us to talk about The Secret Life of Cows, one of the runaway publishing successes of 2017.

This year we will be welcoming another farmer, Sally Urwin, whose book,  A Farmer’s Diary: A Year at High House Farm, is published in April.
