We would like to wish all our supporters a very Happy Christmas. We really could not exist without so many loyal book lovers supporting us: this is vital to ensuring the Festival continues and flourishes for many years to come.
We look forward to seeing you at next year’s Festival. Please do continue to help us spread the word and encourage your fellow book lovers to sign up for our Festival news.
2019 – another exciting year!
What a year! Not one, but two Festivals celebrating books and reading. The success of our first Autumn Edition has spurred us on to hold it again in 2020.
We are thrilled that the Festival continues to go from strength to strength. Here are some of our key achievements over the last year:
- 100 events over two Festivals
- 18 sold out events
- 8087 tickets sold across two Festivals
- 97% rated events as ‘Excellent’ or ‘Good’
- The launch of our Derby Children’s Picture Book Award: the winning book was The Girls
- National Lottery funding awarded for three years for our Shared Reading programme.
The perfect Christmas gift: Festival Friends’ membership!
We are delighted that our Festival Friends membership is proving to be a success again.
The annual membership, which runs from 1 January each year, offers a range of benefits and you can either have a single membership for £25 or joint membership for £40.
Visit our website for full details, terms and conditions and how to apply.
Festival Volunteer wins publishing Award
We know our Festival Volunteers are a talented bunch – and we have already had one of our Volunteers joining us as a Debut Author: Jo Jakeman was published in 2018.
We’ve now heard about another! Jane Bettany has recently won the HQ and Gransnet’s writing prize for unpublished women writers aged over 40. Jane will be assigned an Editor at HQ in the new year and the book will be published digitally first and then in paperback, probably in late 2020. We’re looking forward to welcoming her as a Debut Author in 2021!
Thank you to our volunteers
A big thank you to all of our volunteers who continued to support the Book Festival in 2019. We look forward to welcoming them back in 2020 and will be sharing details of how to get involved early in the New Year.
And finally … our Christmas present to you!
At our Autumn Festival, our partners at QUAD made audio recordings of most of our Festival events. We know that some of you were unable to join us, in particular for Raynor Winn’s sold out event. We have now uploaded all of the recordings to our website and we hope you will enjoy listening to them over the holiday period.
