Flash Fiction entries more than double!

15th February 2017

We have been completely overwhelmed by the response to this year’s Flash Fiction Writing Competition.  We have received 713 entries – which is more than double last year’s figure of just over 300!

We are particularly delighted that the numbers of entries from under 16s has increased: this year we had 386 entries compared to only 58 last year. Many of our local schools engaged with the competition and used it as a classroom activity.  We were impressed by the wonderfully imaginative and moving stories submitted by so many young people.

Wanted!  Children’s Books
Our Bringing Books to Life event for children and families will take place on Saturday 10 June in the Market Place (from 10am to 3.30pm). There will be a Book Swap stall and we are putting out an appeal for children’s books for all ages, in good condition. So please try to persuade your children and teenagers to part with any books that are gathering dust in their bedrooms and bring them along to the reception at Sadlerbridge Studios (34 Sadler Gate, Derby DE1 3NR, on the junction with Bold Lane).

The theme for this year’s Bringing Books to Life event will be ‘Friendship’ and there will be lots of exciting book related activities for children of all ages and their parents, with music, storytelling, fancy dress, street theatre, pavement art, book stalls, face painting and lots more fun and nonsense!
