Calling all Writers’ groups in the city
Are you a member of a Derby based writing group? If so, please get in touch as we are planning a Writers’ Day as part of the Festival on Saturday 11 June. This will include writing workshops and also a session to showcase groups in the city giving you an opportunity to tell fellow writers about your work and find out more about what else is happening in Derby. We will be revealing more information about the Writers’ Day in the coming months. In the meantime, to register your interest in being involved on the day, tell us a bit about your group by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org We also value any ideas you may have for the Writers’ Day.
Fifty Word Flash Fiction competition 2016
We are delighted to announce that we will be running another Flash Fiction competition in 2016, following the success of this year’s competition on the theme of Love. We had over 200 entries and five very different and imaginative winners, whose stories were illustrated and then printed on bookmarks to promote the Festival. We will announce the theme and launch the competition on 19 January so look out for details on our website, social media and in the local media. The closing date will be 19 February.
CAMRA Good Beer Guide and Real Ale Tasting Event
Derby Book Festival aims to embrace all that is important to people in and around Derby. As Derby is ‘the Real Ale capital of the World’ we have teamed up with CAMRA and our local Dancing Duck Brewery to bring an event which celebrates the city’s international status! Roger Protz, writer, journalist, campaigner and editor of the Good Beer Guide will join us on Saturday 4 June for an event in the newly renovated Ballroom of the Old Bell Hotel where he will talk about CAMRA, how the Good Beer Guide is put together, how so many Derby pubs and breweries are listed in it and why Real Ale matters. Brewster Rachel Matthews, owner of the Dancing Duck Brewery, which won “Supreme” Bronze for their Dark Drake beer in CAMRA’s Champion Beer of Britain 2015, will provide a tasting of three of her beers. Unmissable!
