Tickets go on sale today for Derby Reads, our Festival programme launch event to be held in QUAD on Thursday 12 April. As well as sharing the anticipated highlights of this year’s Festival, with readings from some of the wonderful books to be featured, we will also announce the winning stories in this year’s Flash Fiction Writing competition.
The Derby Reads event is FREE, but ticketed – so please book your places.

There was an Old Lady family show on sale
Our partners, Derby LIVE, now have tickets available for a family show There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly which will be held in the Guildhall on Sunday 3 June at 2pm. The show is suitable from ages 2 – 7.
Derby Jazz event at Déda with Christine Tobin, 2 February
Don’t miss this special words and music event in Déda next Friday at 8pm! Tickets cost £15 each.
Dublin-born vocalist and composer Christine Tobin has been at the heart the UK jazz scene for the best part of 30 years. Her latest venture, PELT, brings together the words of Pulitzer-winning poet Paul Muldoon with her own award winning composing skills in a night of music that is teeming with “timbral richness and breath taking imaginative scope” (Jazzwise).
Renowned for her unique rich voice and original compositional style Christine Tobin has led various projects and in 2012 ‘Sailing to Byzantium’, her settings of WB Yeats poems, won a British Composer Award.
Tickets on sale soon at partner venues
Tickets for events at partner venues will go on sale before our Festival launch in QUAD (on 12 April). This is because their brochures are published before ours and tickets are available through their box offices. These partners are: Derby LIVE, Déda and Derby Theatre. We will send you news of the Festival events that they are hosting when they are available.
Tickets for all other events can be bought from QUAD’s box office from 12 April.
You can also buy all tickets online from our website for all Festival events from 12 April.
Arts Council England funding
We are delighted that we have secured our Arts Council England funding for a fourth year. We could not organise a Festival of the quality that we pride ourselves on without the financial support of the University of Derby, the Arts Council and our sponsors. This funding is further supplemented by the generous support in kind of our Festival partners, whose venues, staff skills and knowledge are invaluable to us. And finally, we need to ensure we sell as many tickets as possible to the 80+ events we have planned across nine days.
