We know a lot of our subscribers are poetry lovers, so you’ll no doubt be looking forward to the first Derby Poetry Festival, which will be held from 23 to 26 November 2017 in venues across the city. Headline events include Tony Walsh and Linton Kwezi Johnson (pictured above), and there’ll be lots of local poetry talent throughout the Festival.
Derby Poetry Competition
You can also enter the Derby Poetry Competition. The theme is, of course, Derby! There are three age categories: Junior (5-10 years) Youth, (11-15 years) and adult 16+.
Entries will be judged anonymously and a panel of local creatives will choose winners and runners-up from each category.
Those successful will be invited to read out their poems during the festival and will also have their work displayed in the gallery at Furthest From The Sea’s impressive new headquarters on the Strand Arcade in Derby.
Please email your entries to: firstname.lastname@example.org by midnight on 19 November.
Aviva Community Fund bid
Thanks to everyone who has already voted for our bid to support our Shared Writing project. Here’s the link again:
We know there have been some problems with the Aviva website which is frustrating for people who have tried several times to log on. Aviva have apologised for this and say the problem is now resolved; they have also added an additional £200,000 to the fund. The voting deadline is 21 November.
