Derby Book Festival is delighted to announce, to celebrate World Book Day (5 March), that Hays Education has agreed to sponsor the Festival’s Primary Schools ‘Meet the Author’ event with Michael Morpurgo on Monday 8 June in Derby Theatre.
As part of their sponsorship, Hays Education are running a competition in Derby City schools for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils to design a front cover for one of Michael’s books. Hays will be awarding book vouchers to the schools with the top three entries. The winning covers will be framed and presented to the pupils at the Michael Morpurgo event on 8 June.
Each school has been invited to register to attend the special event and Michael Morpurgo, former Children’s Laureate and author of War Horse and Private Peaceful, will be sending invitations to six lucky children from every city primary school to meet him on 8 June. At the event Michael will read from his books and answer the children’s questions. Schools are being encouraged to read a selection of his books before they meet him.
The event will be free for all schools and aims to inspire children’s love of reading by enabling them to meet one of their favourite authors.
Emma Kwiatkowski, Director for Hays Education said: “Hays Education is delighted to be sponsoring this wonderful event with Michael Morpurgo at the first Derby Book Festival. Giving children the opportunity to meet the author of some of their favourite books is a chance of a lifetime!”
