Dame Joan Bakewell to speak at Festival Lunch

2nd February 2016

We are delighted to announce that Dame Joan Bakewell will be joining us on Thursday 9 June to speak at our Festival Lunch, which will be held in the Cathedral Quarter Hotel.  The event will be sponsored by PwC UK.

She will be talking about her latest book, Stop the Clocks, which is BBC Radio 4’s Book of the Week this week.  You can hear Joan reading extracts each day at 10:45 and again at 00:30 – or catch up with it on Listen Again.

Stop the Clocks is a book of musings, a look back at what she was given by her family, at the times in which she grew up – ranging from the minutiae of life, such as the knowledge of how to darn and how to make a bed properly with hospital corners, to the bigger lessons of politics, of lovers, of betrayal.

At times joyful, at times pensive, she contemplates the past without regret, and looks to the future without fear, but with firm resolve.

More details about how to book coming soon.

Joanna Cannon book launch

We managed to catch up with Joanna Cannon at Waterstones Derby on Wednesday 27 January.  Great window display by Waterstones – take a look if you are passing.  She was heading off to London for the official launch of The Trouble with Goats and Sheep and the reviews have been wonderful.  You can pick up a copy of her book in Waterstones Derby for the special price of £6.49 (half price) until Wednesday 3 February – and they have signed copies available in store.
