Can you write on this theme in up to 50 words?
That is the challenge we are setting for our 2019 Flash Fiction Writing Competition. We are looking for stories of up to fifty words, as measured on the website entry form (excluding the title). You can interpret the theme of 'Our World' in any way you wish, but your work must be original, and it must tell a complete story.
There are three age categories:
- 11 years and under
- 12 – 17 years
- 18 years and over
There will be one winner in each category. A panel of experts will judge the entries and the three winning stories will be:
- illustrated by Evelyn Hunter
- printed on Festival bookmarks, which will be used to promote the 2020 Festival
- published on our website.
We are also running a competition for HM Prison Foston Hall with their winning story being published on a fourth bookmark.
The winners will receive a £50 book token.
Here is an example of Flash Fiction and last year's winning story in the over 18s category:
"Sprayed in bright red on her front door were two words: go home.
Hasinah turned her back to it, pushing the pram down the street. For a moment, she travelled to a place of mango trees, tinkling bangles, calling vendors, honking rickshaws all pieced together under a cloudless blue sky."
